SA Focuses on How Justice in Courts is Treating Women, Minister Says

The National Council on Gender‑Based Violence and Femicide is working on strategies and "legal frameworks that make survivors and complainants happy in courts and consulted," said Sindisiwe Chikunga, Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and People with Disabilities.

Her deputy, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, added that "South Africa has been spending a lot of money to respond to gender-based violence."

The country has 68 specialized care centers providing legal, psychosocial, and medical services, while prevention and addressing "structural drivers" like unemployment and poverty remain key priorities, she noted.

"We are calling on all South Africans [...] Let it not be you who perpetuates violence," Letsike emphasized.
