AU Excludes Foreign Partners From Upcoming Conflict Resolution Summit

African states should independently determine ways to strengthen conflict prevention mechanisms and decide how they will be financed, Angola’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU Miguel Bembe said.

"This is about putting our own house in order. We Africans must do this work ourselves," Bembe said.

The diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations accredited in Angola will be able to attend the opening and closing of the summit, he noted, adding that only AU member states will participate in the closed session, where the main issues will be discussed and the final documents adopted.

The AU extraordinary summit will take place on Sunday in Luanda, preceded by a meeting of the organization’s Executive Council on Saturday.
