International Boxing Day: Winning Olympic Medal for Ghana is Long & Tough Journey—Ghanaian Boxer
"It [winning Olympic bronze] changed everything about me and it made me a different person. [...] It changed my life. It changed my boxing career," Samuel Takyi told Sputnik Africa on the occasion of the International Boxing Day.
Now an Olympic medalist and a winner of the African Games, Takyi aims to become Ghana’s first world boxing champion.
Rather than relocating abroad, he chose to build his professional career at home, fueled by his country's unwavering support, while transitioning from amateur to professional boxing requires doubled preparation and immense sacrifice.
Takyi urges the next generation of African boxers to remain disciplined, trust their coaches, and stay physically and spiritually strong to conquer the global stage.
