Like many other indigenous African languages, Hausa is often forced into being perceived as inferior to colonial languages, Yakubu Magaji Azare, director of the Centre for Research in Nigerian Languages, told told the host of the Global South Pole podcast on the occasion of World Hausa Day.
Although Hausa dominates everyday life, it remains sidelined in official spheres, he noted.
