Africa Has Talent, Resources to Achieve Health Sovereignty, Expert Says
African countries must reframe health systems as economically viable workforces rather than just social ministries, Dr. Sompwe L. Mwansa, Council Representative for Africa and the Middle East at the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists, told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the 76th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa.

Harnessing Healthcare's Economic Potential: "The African healthcare workforce has a lot of economic potential, and we need to begin to harness that," Mwansa said, calling for domestic financing to sustain health systems.
Local Production for Better Emergency Response: Organizations like the Africa CDC and the African Medicines Agency are guiding policy to produce medicines locally, enabling better emergency response.
Safeguarding African Data in the AI Era: The expert stressed safeguarding African genomic data and ensuring AI tools are trained on localized data rather than imported algorithms with external biases.
Addressing Brain Drain: To address brain drain, she called for systems that support the economic and mental well‑being of the African healthcare workforce to retain talent.
