China is taking wind power to the stratosphere

China’s upgraded S4000 airborne wind system has just passed a full-flight test, potentially opening a new frontier in renewable energy, reports Global Times.

The helium-lifted floating power station:

🟠 achieved ascent and operating high-altitude of 4,000 meters - viable across most of China

🟠 power generation testing and smooth, controlled recovery

🟠 unlike conventional ground turbines, uses a flying device to tap high-altitude winds

🟠 with direct grid compatibility, is designed for a 20-year service life
