Africa Must Invest in Drones & AI to Achieve Security Sovereignty: Nigerien Expert

Africa has no choice but to rely on endogenous solutions if it is to break free from dependency and confront its security challenges, Salissou Saadou told Sputnik Africa, commenting on recent remarks by Mali's Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop.

Africa must build its own manufacturing base for drones, autonomous systems, and AI technologies, the minister urged on August 12 during the 2nd session of the International Conference on Security.

Adding to the minister's remarks, economic analyst Saadou emphasized the strategic role of drones, citing them as inexpensive, versatile and capable of reaching areas where traditional means cannot.

Beyond defense, these technologies can revolutionize agriculture, mining, education, and healthcare, he clarified.

By pooling their efforts, particularly within the AES, African countries can acquire these capabilities without "investing billions and billions," Saadou added.
