Burkina Faso Urges UN To Tell 'Truth About Sahel'

Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré has called on the organization to base its assessments on ground realities rather than erroneous reports, according to a ministry statement.

"We may not receive praise, but at least say what is just and true about our countries," the minister said during a meeting with the UN secretary-general's special envoy in Ouagadougou.

Traoré defended AES priorities, emphasizing that security comes before elections, and noted that progress made by the governments is not being recognized.

He also urged the UN to avoid applying flawed solutions based on inaccurate analyses.

ℹThe Dakar-based UN mission is evaluating the activities of the UN Office for West Africa and the Sahel. Its conclusions will help inform Security Council decisions and shape future collaboration with the country, according to Envoy Sahle‑Work Zewde.
