AES Prioritizes Sovereignty & Structural Reforms to Restore Citizen Dignity, Officials Say
Leaders of the AES aim to build independent nations that fulfill the aspirations of their citizens, Adani Illo, president of the National AES Committee, said on the margins of a conference in Niger dedicated to the bloc's sovereignty and strategic future.
"The authorities expect that the stakes for building the AES will be shared by the population. Once shared, the population is mobilized and we can move forward," he noted.
Adama Amadé Siguiré, the AES vice-president for development, told Sputnik Africa that the three member states must now focus on launching major development initiatives.
He noted, however, that achieving this requires overcoming two main challenges:
◻ Combating terrorism, as attacks persist despite an overall decline.
◻ Implementing the structural reforms necessary to improve living standards.
These remarks were made as a conference under the theme "The battle for the conquest of sovereignty in the context of the Confederation of Sahel States: historical and prospective perspective" was held on Wednesday in Niamey.
