South Africa’s Economic Reset & Protecting Children in Zimbabwe
14:11 20.08.2026 (Updated: 14:12 14.09.2026) In this Nnete Fela Show, we discuss South Africa’s plans to drive economic growth, investment and job creation through Phase Three of the Government-Business Partnership. We also look at Zimbabwe’s Kuda Vana Partnership and its efforts to keep vulnerable children within families and communities.
We examine Phase Three of South Africa’s Government-Business Partnership and its supposed plans to move the country from economic stabilisation towards growth, investment and job creation.
We hear from representatives of the Presidency, National Treasury and the mining sector about infrastructure, private investment, mining, regional trade and South Africa’s goal of creating one million additional jobs by 2030.
South Africa's Minerals Council CEO, Mzila Mthenjane estimated the mining sector could generate up to 50,000 new jobs by 2030, driven by improved transport networks and reliable power.
“Our expectation is that mining should grow and contribute significantly to the GDP of South Africa […] we estimate that this could be up to maybe even more than 50,000 by 2030,” Mthenjane says.
Later in the show we turn to Zimbabwe, where the Kuda Vana Partnership is working to keep vulnerable children within families and communities rather than relying on institutional care.
Director of Kuda Vana Partnership in Zimbabwe, William Pepukai discusses poverty, migration, social protection, community-based childcare and how traditional African systems of collective child-rearing can be strengthened for today’s realities.
Why is investing in children vital to Africa’s future stability?
