SA Expands Government-Business Partnerships Into Mining & Tourism to Attract Investment, Boost Regional Trade: Correspondent
President Cyril Ramaphosa launched the third phase of the government-business partnership, marking a strategic shift from crisis management to sustained growth. This phase leverages recent gains in stable electricity, improved logistics, and removal from the Financial Action Task Force gray list to drive broader continental development, a Sputnik Africa correspondent reported.
Speaking to Sputnik Africa, government representatives and industry leaders outlined how these foundational improvements will translate into tangible results:
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana confirmed a ~$21.71 billion allocation to state utilities, Transnet and Eskom, noting the business case for private investment is now highly attractive without additional fiscal incentives.
🟠Minerals Council CEO Mzila Mthenjane estimated the mining sector could generate up to 50,000 new jobs by 2030, driven by improved transport networks and reliable power.
He also added that upgrades to roads, rail, and water systems will directly support mining expansion and the local beneficiation of minerals for future technologies.
🟠Presidency director-general Phindile Baleni highlighted that South Africa's Southern African Development Community chairmanship creates vital opportunities for regional trade, ensuring neighboring economies grow alongside it.
