West & Its Oil Companies 'Underestimate African Potential': Former Nigerien Minister
Africa accounts for between 12% and 13% of global oil potential and could challenge the major powers if it were considered as a single producer, Mahaman Laouan Gaya, advisor to the president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, told Sputnik Africa.
"With true cooperation, particularly with the BRICS, Russia, and China, I believe that Africa will find its place in the global oil and energy landscape. We are in the phase of a new global economic order," he noted.
Oil resources should no longer be sold as raw materials, and Africa must focus on added value, the speaker emphasized.
According to Gaya, the same must be applied to Niger's uranium, since it has long been redirected to France.
