A Stellenbosch University study has found that roughly two-thirds of surveyed adolescents in South Africa's Gauteng and the Western Cape have had some involvement in cyberbullying, either as victims, perpetrators, or both.Professor Daniel Le Roux, Associate Professor at Stellenbosch University highlights the parental intervention process and why its necessary that parents are much more active in restricting their children's media. The conversation also explores the digital divide, responsibilities of social media platforms and government regulatory measures.The professor notes that while incidents may begin as online behaviour, they often spread to in person bullying at schools. The professor notes that while incidents may begin as online behaviour, they often spread to in person bullying at schools.
Number one, parents must always keep the door open. As these adolescents move into 16, 17, 18 years old, we see parents tend to slowly but surely move out of the space a bit more," Prof. Le Roux.
Economic boost for Cape of Good Hope
