Madagascar’s Land Reclamation Could Inspire Nations With Similar Colonial Heritage: Malagasy Official
Reclaiming national heritage is a vital act of sovereignty, especially given the sensitivity of land issues in Madagascar, mayor of the municipality of Bemasoandro Jimmy Ranitratsilo told Sputnik Africa, commenting on a recent High Constitutional Court ruling that validates the transfer of former colonial territories to the state.
Under this law, any property title registered to a foreigner as of June 26, 1960, that has not since been transferred to a Malagasy owner, automatically reverts to state ownership.
Given its significant demographic weight, Madagascar’s efforts to restore colonial lands could "inspire other countries" facing similar historical challenges, the official noted.
