Namibian Firefighters Save Dozens of Crocodiles From Farm Blaze: Fire Department Chief
A six-man crew braved smoke inhalation, confined spaces, and potential attacks to rescue the reptiles tackling a blaze that engulfed the thatched roofs at the Otjiwarongo Crocodile Farm on Monday, the municipality’s fire department chief, Daniel Pavaza, told local media.
The fire destroyed shade structures that had protected the animals for 35 years, causing an estimated $9,252 in damage, Otjiwarongo Crocodile Farm manager Dieter Noelle said.
Established in 1985, the facility is a major tourist attraction and local employer, supporting about 20 workers and supplying crocodile meat and leather globally, he noted.
