'We Want Young People to Start Contributing Meaningfully Into BRICS': SA Expert

In today's "globalized world," where global politics affect "day-to-day life," young people "need to start being active citizens," Raymond Matlala, founder and chairperson of the SA BRICS Youth Association, told Sputnik Africa.

"If you're not even aware and you don't want to get involved, many of us as young people will remain a statistic of youth unemployment."

SA BRICS Youth Association has now "moved away from just events approach to developing programs," according to Matlala.

The programs include:

🟠Short learning program: a five‑week course with the University of Johannesburg covering introduction to BRICS, the New Development Bank, and economic and financial cooperation.

🟠Two‑day capacity building program: a condensed version for those unable to commit to the full five‑week course.

🟠Model BRICS simulation: a first‑of‑its‑kind simulation applying BRICS principles, helping participants understand how BRICS operates.

🟠Free Russian language course offered through Russian partners.

🟠International internship and volunteer program in BRICS member states.

As currently the BRICS Youth Council is "the only council that is led by the government," it must be reconfigured so that the government plays "a supportive role," Matlala added.
