Nigeria Commits $1 Billion to Sugar Self-Sufficiency Drive: Government

The National Sugar Development Council's strategy relies on stricter import quotas and transforming sugarcane into a broader bio-industrial ecosystem that also yields ethanol, animal feed and electricity.

By prioritizing practical execution, the initiative aims to produce 2 million tonnes annually to boost local employment and significantly cut foreign spending, the council's executive secretary Kamar Bakrin said.
