'Let’s Democratize Completely': SA Official on Reforming UN
"We need to understand that African people too have a contribution to make to the world," Zukiswa Mqolomba, deputy chair of the Public Service Commission and the Police Advisory Panel, told Sputnik Africa.
First step is to change the UNSC, where currently "only five countries can veto a decision of the UNGA without consequence," Mqolomba said.
Africa needs to speak as a united block, "not just economically, but politically and culturally, without fear, prejudice, or bias," she underlined.
"We need to move away [from] dismantle and dislodge all exclusionary mechanisms, processes, and institutional cultures that undermine the voices of many."
A just and equitable society requires the resolution of the "triple oppression" of race, class, and gender that disproportionately affects African women, Mqolomba added.
