How Africa Raises and Feeds Its Children Will Shape Its Future: Former Ethiopian State Minister
Former Ethiopian State Minister of Peace Frealem Shibabaw, a long-time advocate for child nutrition, says African governments must recognize that malnutrition is not only a problem for children — it can affect the development of an entire generation.
Nutrition during the first 1,000 days is critical for brain development, Shibabaw pointed out to Sputnik Africa. That is why, she argued, governments should treat child nutrition as a long-term national development priority.
Ethiopia is already making progress in this area: Its government has made school feeding a national priority, with programs now reaching around 7–8 million children daily, according to Shibabaw.
