Tanzanian women are increasingly falling victim to traffickers promising high-paying jobs—especially domestic work in the UAE—or free foreign scholarships via social media, an officer from the Secretariat for the Prevention of Human Trafficking, Agustino Mwembe, told Sputnik Africa.
Instead of the advertised opportunities, many victims endure severe abuse and grueling forced labor and are sometimes pushed into illegal sex markets, he noted.
To combat these criminal networks, the secretariat is leveraging national anti-trafficking laws and strengthening international cooperation, the official added.
