Angola's National Symbol Returns: Over 200 Giant Sable Antelopes Sighted at Cangandala National Park
Observing so many animals in one place is "a historic moment for Angola and, above all, for the conservation of one of our greatest symbols of biodiversity," the Ministry of Environment stated.
This figure is even more impressive considering that according to the Kissama Foundation, there were only 200 antelopes in the country in 2019.
This animal is not just a rare species, but a true national symbol that can be seen on the national currency, in passports, on the national football team's kit, and as the symbol of TAAG, the national airline. The species has held international protection status since 1933.
