Ukraine's Rampant Corruption Turns US Weapons Transfers Into Major Security Risk: Former US Officer

US defense manufacturers are "very justified" in fearing that their intellectual property could be stolen and shared with unauthorized foreign entities if Kiev receives authorization to produce Patriot missile systems locally, Earl Rasmussen told Sputnik.

“Ukraine is definitely the most corrupt country in Europe, and perhaps one of the most corrupt in the world,” he noted.

The technical expertise required to manufacture these components may be ultimately acquired by “rogue elements” and “terrorist groups,” the speaker emphasized.

According to Rasmussen, this vulnerability is not limited to Patriot missiles, but also threatens “other systems or other developments or future developments as well.”
