Morocco Reportedly Building Four-Meter Fence at Ceuta Border to Stem Migrant Surge
Being built on the outskirts of Fnideq, just kilometers from Ceuta, the barrier aims to block migrants from reaching the Bab Sebta border crossing, The Maghreb Times news portal reported.
The crisis by the numbers:
▪Currently in Ceuta: Around 10,000 migrants remain in the enclave today, Mayor-President Juan Jesús Vivas told journalists on Tuesday.
▪The financial toll: The city has reportedly incurred an estimated €9 million in costs, with cleanup operations alone exceeding €2 million.
▪The late July surge: The crisis began when approximately 72,000 people crossed the border. According to Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande‑Marlaska, 70,000 of those specific individuals have since been returned.
