Military aid to Ukraine left US without Javelin missiles until 2030

The US will not be able to replenish its stocks of Javelin anti-tank missiles until at least 2030, as the volume of additional purchases in 2022–2024 exceeded manufacturers’ production capacity, Pentagon budget documents reveal.

Between 2022 and 2025, the US Army purchased 9,374 missiles to replenish its stocks, with the majority of these orders beginning deliveries several years after the contracts were signed.

The latest batch — 944 missiles funded back in 2024 — will not begin shipping until August 2030 and is set to be delivered over several years.

The full procurement and production cycle for a single Javelin missile takes up to 4.5 years, while a command launch unit takes slightly more than four years, making rapid replenishment impossible.
