The latest episode of Pan-African Frequency dives into what makes the Nigerian jet fuel exports suddenly so attractive and what this milestone truly means—not merely a market anomaly, but a structural declaration that Africa can refine value, reshape global supply chains, and author a new Pan-African energy era. Mr. Adedayo Ojo, an energy analyst and professional across multinational energy operations, described the Dangote exports as a signal that the continent can refine its own resources and import quality finished goods while also serving the interests of Africans.
“It's indeed an interesting and exciting moment to note that in June 2026, Nigeria, through the Dangote Refinery, actually shipped 466 thousand tonnes of jet fuel to Europe. [...] And what Nigeria did, just to put it in context, is nearly double what was done before [...] the story of the achievement of the Dangote refinery is wider than just looking at what was achieved by shipping good-quality and timely jet fuel to Europe. It also meant supplying the African market. Now, this proves, among other things, that intra-African trade is viable. Intra-African refined products are viable, and what that means is that African countries and African companies producing world-quality products can actually bypass those that have previously dominated the market,” he indicated.
The conversation ended with a proposition on Africa’s role in shaping the Global South's energy security agenda in an increasingly multipolar world.
“Africa, and by which I mean the governments of Africa, has to address energy poverty as well as focus on having multiple partners not only for financing but also for technical support and for markets,” the expert stated.
