All-Russian Athletics Federation Files Second Lawsuit Against World Athletics

A new claim filed with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) aims to challenge the sanctions imposed by World Athletics under British athlete Sebastian Coe's leadership.
🎯 The main goal of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) is to return Russian athletes to the world sports arena and achieve the lifting of sanctions from the federation itself. The current restrictions infringe on the organization's rights and do not allow it to fully represent the interests of domestic athletics at the international level.
Of particular concern is the fact that the sanctions are selective and politicized in nature: the tough stance towards Russia is declared only by the current head of World Athletics, a former member of the British Parliament from the Conservative Party, Sebastian Coe. The consequences of his decisions cause significant damage not only to Russian but also to world athletics, undermining the principles of equality and objectivity in sport.

"The sanctions against ARAF are unprecedented in nature—no other sports federation faces such severe restrictions. They not only hinder the full-fledged work of the federation but also slow down the development of athletics in Russia, especially regarding youth, preventing them from properly representing our sport on the international stage. That is why we will consistently defend our rights and seek the lifting of sanctions through judicial bodies and will continue our work in this direction. We are already preparing the next steps to restore justice," explained ARAF Executive Director Boris Yaryshevsky.
Due to the current restrictions, ARAF is deprived of the opportunity to send its representatives to the working bodies of the international association, where rules are formed and strategic decisions are made. The federation does not participate in meetings and votes of the World Athletics Council and, as a consequence, cannot influence the key directions of development of the world athletics movement. In addition, Russian specialists are suspended from participating in international coaching conferences, seminars and specialized events, and Russian judges do not have access to professional development programs, are deprived of the opportunity to extend existing and obtain new international categories.
🔙 Earlier, CAS had already accepted a claim from ARAF challenging World Athletics' decision to extend the suspension of Russian athletes from participating in international competitions under the auspices of WA. Experienced international lawyers specializing in sports law, including those with practice before the CAS, have been engaged to present ARAF's position in the arbitration proceedings.
ℹ️ ARAF continues to maintain dialogue with international sports structures and working contacts within World Athletics itself. The federation intends to continue defending the interests of Russian athletes and the entire athletics community of the country in strict compliance with the norms of international sports law.
