Content Colonialism: Is Africa Giving Away Its Digital Wealth?

On #GlobalSouthPole, Paschal Ogana, Founder of the Cybersecurity Intelligence Unit, Nigeria, examines the growing debate over “content colonialism” as Nigeria investigates major global technology companies over allegations involving digital competition and the use of online content.
He argues that African journalism, books, music, languages, and user-generated data have become valuable digital resources, yet much of their economic value is captured elsewhere. According to him, Africa must move beyond being a supplier of digital content and become an active participant in owning, governing, and benefiting from the technologies built on its creativity.
