AES Responds to Nigerian President's Remarks on 'Collapse' of Security in Sahel

"You see the problem of insecurity in Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic is adding more fuel to our challenges," Bola Tinubu said last Thursday.

The Burkinabe Foreign Minister delivered the Alliance's response:

🟠The three countries would have preferred a more accurate presentation of the security context, rather than "placing the burden of a complex situation on neighboring countries," Jean-Marie Traoré stressed.

🟠Such an approach risks creating "frustrations between peoples bound by history, geography and brotherhood."

🟠These remarks demonstrate "a contempt for the sacrifice made by the Nigerien army against Boko Haram for years."

The Nigerian embassy's chargé d'affaires received the message and pledged to report it to his authorities in Abuja.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the AES countries in the fight against terrorism and welcomed their constructive approach in favor of dialogue and solidarity in the face of the common threat.
