DRC's Authorities Release 15 People to M23: Red Cross
The handover—which marked one of the first concrete steps in implementing the Qatar-brokered peace agreement signed last year—came on Friday, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross that facilitated the transfer.
The people concerned, all of whom had consented to the transfer, traveled from the government-held city of Beni through Uganda to Rutshuru in eastern Congo, where they were handed over to M23.
"We hope that this operation will bring some comfort to families who have been separated for so long from their loved ones," said Stephanie Eller, head of operations for the Red Cross in Kinshasa.
