As South Africa marks 70 years since the Women’s March, we look at women’s economic empowerment, 60 years of conservation at Augrabies Falls, and whether a new hospital in Mpumalanga can help make quality healthcare more accessible.
South Africa is marking 70 years since the historic Women’s March of 1956, but how much economic power do women have today? South Africa is marking 70 years since the historic Women’s March of 1956, but how much economic power do women have today? At the 8th Annual Women in Business and Leadership Conference, Minister Cindy Chikunga says women-owned businesses still face major obstacles, particularly when it comes to finance, technology, mentorship, and access to markets.
The minister suggests that there have been measurable improvements in the education of women, but this progress is not translating to the job market.
"We've made progress in education […] 60% of graduates per year in South Africa are young women, but where are they? The majority of them are sitting at home."
We then head to the Northern Cape, where Augrabies Falls National Park is marking 60 years of conservation.
