Tanzania's National Housing Corp. Launches $202 Million Redevelopment of Aging Buildings

The National Housing Corporation (NHC) is redeveloping 62 aging properties across Tanzania through public-private partnerships, transforming underutilized urban assets into modern commercial and residential complexes.

Key highlights:

🟠The first phase includes 21 projects, with five already completed and occupied. The remaining are at various stages, many exceeding 80% completion.

🟠The program targets aging buildings in key urban districts, replacing them with modern mixed‑use developments and expanding to other areas to create jobs and support urban growth.

🟠Each project employs between 60 and 80 construction workers, with more jobs expected once facilities are operational.

Public‑private partnerships are transforming obsolete properties into productive assets, NHC Public Affairs manager Yahya Charahani said, adding that the first phase's success has laid the foundation for expansion.
