Zimbabwe Outlines First Infrastructure Priorities After Joining NDB
Power generation, transport infrastructure and major regional projects are among Zimbabwe's top priorities for financing through the New Development Bank (NDB), Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said answering Sputnik Africa’s question following a budget review meeting in Harare.
The remarks follow Ncube's announcement in late July that Zimbabwe had been admitted as a borrowing member of the BRICS bank. At Wednesday's press conference, he described the membership as "a major milestone" that opens another channel for development financing.
According to the minister, Zimbabwe is considering seeking NDB support for the expansion of the Hwange power station, the Batoka Gorge hydropower project with Zambia, road infrastructure, and a proposed monorail system for the greater Harare metropolitan area.
However, the government has yet to compile a project portfolio for submission to the bank, Ncube noted.
