'Planting is an Act': Niger Celebrates National Tree Day in Niamey
Dozens of saplings were planted across the capital in the third edition of the initiative under the theme "Restoring Productive Land, a Pillar of Refoundation."
The initiative will help "combat aridity, reclaim land, promote agroforestry, and achieve food sovereignty," Ali Kassou, delegate administrator of Niamey's 4th district, told Sputnik Africa.
Local resident Adamou Halidou expressed optimism that in the years to come, people "will benefit from the shade of the trees that will be planted."
Ali Oumarou, president of the Niger Scouts Association, assured that all planted vegetation will be properly maintained.
