Polish swimmer Bartłomiej Kubkowski became the first person to swim across the Baltic Sea, completing the 160-kilometer challenge in 55 hours without sleep.

Under the rules, he could not touch the support boat or the shore. Food and water were passed to him using a special pole.

For comparison, 160 km is slightly longer than the Strait of Sicily (148 km), separating Africa from Europe.

This was Kubkowski's fifth attempt. In 2025, he came within just 11 km of the finish.
