Ceuta Migration Crisis is a 'Result of Organized Action,' Not Spontaneous: Moroccan Authorities
The late July migration tensions in Ceuta were sparked by online misinformation and human trafficking networks, Moroccan Interior Ministry spokesman Rachid El Khalfi said.
Investigations are underway into the "misinterpretation of legal and administrative data aimed at creating the illusion of easy access to European space," he noted.
▪ The Moroccan ministry reported 40,000 attempted border crossings in late July.
▪ 11 people died during the attempts: one from a fall and ten by drowning.
▪ Moroccan and Spanish authorities are jointly verifying reports of additional deaths. Spanish authorities have reported 50,000 arrivals and 72 fatalities.
