Ceuta Migrant Center Overcrowded as Occupancy Exceeds Capacity
The Temporary Stay Center for Immigrants (CETI) in Ceuta has exceeded its capacity of 512 and is no longer able to accommodate new arrivals, a Spanish Civil Guard officer told Sputnik.
Migrants who cannot be admitted remain outside the facility while awaiting available space. The CETI is designed to provide temporary accommodation for migrants and asylum seekers, offering shelter, food, and basic social assistance.
According to the Spanish Interior Ministry, between July 30 and 31 around 50,000 people attempted to reach Ceuta from the Moroccan city of Fnideq, many by swimming. Local authorities estimated the figure at 60,000. Since then, the vast majority have returned to Morocco. Moroccan authorities, meanwhile, reported that approximately 40,000 people crossed illegally into Ceuta during the incident.
