Ghana Civil Society Forms Coalition to Combat Trafficking for Cyber Fraud

The Ghana Civil Society Coalition Against Transnational Crime, which aims to strengthen efforts to combat human trafficking and protect young people who are exploited through cyber fraud, was announced during the national forum on trafficking for forced criminality.

Key developments:

🟠The coalition will be formally launched in Accra on International Youth Day, August 12, 2026.

🟠Recent cases include the rescue of more than 100 young Ghanaians in Ho in January 2026, 44 individuals from alleged criminal camps in Nigeria in March, and 28 persons repatriated from Côte d'Ivoire in May.

🟠Organizers stressed that trafficked persons should be treated as victims, not criminals, and should not be prosecuted for offenses committed as a direct consequence of their exploitation.

The forum was organized by GYAN Ghana, the Democratic Network for Action (DNA), and Transnational Mobility Pathways (TMP), with participation from government, UN agencies, and civil society.

"For fifteen years, GYAN Ghana has warned that this was never simply a story of criminal young people — it was a story of young people preyed upon," said Lamberta Bina Abusah, co‑convener of the forum.
