Zimbabwe's Fiscal Discipline Anchors Economic Stability, Data Shows
A mid-year budget review shows the government has kept spending within approved limits, marking a departure from past expenditure overruns and reinforcing macroeconomic stability, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said.
Key details from the review:
🟠In the first half of the year, the government utilized ZiG123 billion ($4.85 billion)—equivalent to 42.5% of the annual budget.
🟠Inflation averaged 4.2% during the six months to June—the lowest level in nearly three decades.
🟠The economy expanded by 6.8% in Q1 2026, surpassing the government's initial 5% full-year forecast.
Despite external headwinds, including the Middle East crisis and revenue losses exceeding $74 million from fuel tax deferrals, Treasury says the approved budget remains adequate without the need for a supplementary budget.
