Africa's Exports & Imports Rise Despite Middle East Conflict: WTO

Africa's exports grew by 14% in value—the second‑highest globally after Asia—driven by precious metals, gold, copper, fertilizers, and ores, even though cocoa and fuel exports declined, according to recent WTO/UNCTAD data.

Other key points from the report:

Imports grew 15% year‑on‑year, driven by vehicles, machinery, and ships, while aircraft and organic chemicals imports fell.

Quarter‑on‑quarter export volume declined by 2.5% in the first quarter, but it is expected to rebound in the second quarter as petroleum producers increase output.

Africa's cumulative import growth since the start of 2023 reached 25%, the highest of any region.
