As the socialist bloc collapsed after the Cold War, the West increased its exploitation of Africa for its resources, political scientist, sociologist, and anthropologist José Antonio Egido told Sputnik.

He stressed that it was these policies, pursued by NATO countries, that led to the crisis we see today.
