International law expert Professor Angelo Dube explains why receiving a petition is not the same as opening an ICC investigation, arguing that South Africa's own courts remain the appropriate forum for alleged criminal conduct.
“It is not every legal criminal act that must go to the ICC […] our courts are functioning, our courts are not biased, they are impartial, they can be utilized,” Professor Dube says.
We also discuss South Africa's sugar industry, where producers warn that a surge in low-cost imports is putting pressure on farmers and rural employment in one of SA’s premier agricultural industries.
