Ancient Integrated Bathing Facilities Complex Found in Egypt's Port Said: Antiquities Ministry
Archaeologists have uncovered the first scientifically documented complex of this kind at Tel Nasser in the Port Said area, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said.
According to the statement, the excavation revealed:
a private bathing unit and a public bathhouse;
an integrated water supply and drainage system;
circular bathing rooms (tholoi), foot-bath units, and water basins;
red-brick water channels and hydraulic structures;
archaeological layers showing settlement phases dating from before the Roman era.
Why It Matters:
Dating back mainly to the Roman and Byzantine eras, the findings provide a new model of hydraulic engineering and add to knowledge of settlement development in the region, the ministry added.
