UNSC Unanimously Extends Sanctions on Armed Groups in Central African Republic Through 2027: Press Release
On Wednesday, the Security Council adopted a resolution extending sanctions for an additional year, until July 31, 2027, against armed factions and other individuals undermining peace in the Central African Republic (CAR).
The resolution also renews the mandate of the expert panel responsible for monitoring the implementation of these sanctions until August 31, 2027.
Although the SC lifted the arms embargo on the CAR government in 2024, it maintained the embargo on armed groups and affiliated individuals operating within the country.
Furthermore, targeted restrictive measures, including asset freezes and travel bans on entities and persons designated by the Sanctions Committee, remain fully in effect.
