AU Praises Equatorial Guinea & Gabon for Signing Border Dispute Implementation Deal
The AU Commission has hosted the signing of a Joint Engagement Agreement between Equatorial Guinea and Gabon on the implementation of the International Court of Justice Judgment of May 19, 2025, regarding their territorial dispute. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 49th AU Executive Council session in Addis Ababa.
AU-facilitated talks between Presidents Obiang and Oligui paved the way for the agreement, with Special Envoy Albert Shingiro driving the engagement process.
"The Agreement signed today is much more than a legal instrument. It is a testament to the political maturity of two African nations that have chosen dialogue over confrontation, cooperation over division, and respect for the rule of law over the use of force," Chair of the AU Executive Council Burundi's Foreign Minister Edouard Bizimana stated.
