For African Public Opinion, 'ICC Resembled Tool for Fighting Against Africans': Chadian Analyst

"We were seeing mass prosecutions of African leaders," Cyrille Tchamba explained to Sputnik Africa.

He commented on Chad's withdrawal from the ICC, following those of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

According to him, some governments "used the Court for political purposes." "This is the case with the Gbagbo trial," which "spent eight years in The Hague for acts that were ultimately not upheld against him."

"A number of African countries had already expressed their interest in being able to try African cases before an African court," he noted.

"Africa must arm itself, even on the judicial level," and we must think "of legal instruments that are our own, that are closer to us," insisted the expert.
