Operating since 2017, the 472-km Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway links the Port of Mombasa to the capital, Nairobi.
Performance so far: The route
has maintained over 3,300 consecutive days of safe operations;
transported 18.6 million passengers;
carried 50 million tonnes of cargo.
Cargo types: Expanded beyond basic containers to include grain, fertilizer, steel, and cold-chain products.
Impact: Significantly cut transport costs, boosted logistics efficiency, and stabilized regional supply chains.
