Rare Nubian Giraffes Relocated to Uganda
Authorities have transferred 12 critically endangered Nubian giraffes from Murchison Falls Park to the Ajai Reserve, 106 kilometers away, aiming to mitigate the risks of high wildlife density in a region that holds 40% of the country's oil reserves.
Sedated and blindfolded, the giraffes were transported in specially equipped trucks, provided with branches to eat along the route. Upon arrival, they were released immediately.
ℹ The Ajai Reserve saw its wildlife nearly exterminated by poaching in the 1980s. Today, white rhinos, buffaloes, and zebras are being reintroduced there.
