Pretoria's active engagement with platforms like BRICS, the AU, and the G20 primarily aims to expand its diplomatic options and reduce reliance on a single power, international affairs analyst Tracy Reign told Sputnik Africa, commenting on South Africa's G20 isolation and the shift to multipolarity.
However, a multipolar system does not guarantee equality, since middle-power countries risk being caught between competing blocs, replacing one dominant power with another, she noted.
The goal is not to swap one geopolitical structure for another, but to create sufficient diplomatic space for South Africa and Africa to participate as independent, self-reliant centers, Reign emphasized.
