Dangote Refinery Secures Funding From Private Investors to Boost Africa's Energy Independence

The Dangote Group has raised $2.5 billion through a private placement, described as the largest publicized private investment in Africa, to support the expansion of its refinery in Lekki, Nigeria.

The funds will complement internal cash flows and external financing as the company pushes ahead with its capacity expansion program, according to Aliko Dangote.

The refinery, already the continent's largest, aims to more than double its production capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028, which would make it the world's largest refinery, surpassing India's Jamnagar facility.

The group says the expansion will help reduce Africa's dependence on imported refined products and strengthen the continent's energy security.
