Uganda Marks National Cleaning Days to Combat Unsanitary Conditions & Diseases
The national cleaning campaign began on July 25 and will take place every Saturday, Ugandan Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja said.
🟠Ugandans are called to go out into the streets to clear public pathways of waste every Saturday from 7 am to 10 am.
🟠During the cleaning hours, the movement of pedestrians and vehicles will be restricted.
Kampala generates between 2,000 and 2,500 tonnes of waste per day, but only 50 to 60% is collected, leading to clogged drainage channels and environmental pollution, according to the prime minister.
Malaria thrives in unsanitary conditions, Nabbanja said, adding that keeping Uganda clean is everyone's responsibility.
